Plans are evolving for this event, and this description is a proposal, free to be discussed, amended, and added to. So far, the plan is:
We meet in Nevada City at 1pm. Let’s say Robinson Plaza.
Libby is bringing hula hoops! I will bring face paint and sidewalk chalk. Ooo- and bubbles.
We bring some art objects, but we keep it simple and portable. I am thinking maybe we can attach the puppet head to Portia’s wagon? Decorated nicely around the edges, of course. Other wheeled contraptions? I have my little two wheel bucket-cart, which works great. Maybe some of our gear could be wheeled on a bike with bike bags?
Among our decor are signage. I have one I’m making that says “Compassion is revolutionary”. Let’s brainstorm about other messages. The idea is to connect with local women, rather than make demands of a faceless edifice (system). But as part of that, let’s not neglect real issues, and let’s keep in mind the corporate-government domination that Occupy is resisting. Let your inspiration be your guide.
We carry cards to hand to women. Greeting cards with messages of thanks, affirmation…. Portia is writing. Nice art on the front. Thinking about that. I will post some ideas for card art in the forum, and other people do the same, please. I think it would be nice if we used a piece of locally created art and I think we should make the cards with photocopy. Cards featuring individual art pieces (stamps, stencils) would be super cool, but too much to take on at this time.
At the event, we create a work of art together, a line of prayer flags. By “we” I mean any women who want to join in. I think it should be women, so we can create something that is expressing women’s voices. Yes? Of course men may do art with us, that would be great. But maybe only the women’s flags get strung on the rope into the big composite art piece. The flags will express women’s messages to be brought to protests and gatherings.
A few of us are planning to get together on Tuesday to cut out and hem the prayer flags. If you want to be part of that, send a message in the forum. I’m looking into what kind of ink or fabric paint would work best for the flags. Does anyone have experience with this? I’m thinking we can use big drawing boards, the kinds with clips on them, for doing the actual painting. I’ll figure out a portable handy paint holder.
We can walk through the town handing out the cards, maybe playing music and singing (bring lyric sheets!), we can stop and talk, we can stop and sit and make prayer flags. We can set up a little station and hang out somewhere.
Other ideas? Thoughts? This is all in process will be what we make it. Fun it will be, that I know. ♥
